BREASTFEEDING

Firstly, I would like to apologize for my late posting due to, I have a chronic illness, and asking for my Colleagues to keep me lifted up in your prayers.

Breastfeeding is one way to ensure the baby is getting his / her proper nutrition’s.  I read an updated article written by “Melissa Kotlen Nagin on May 16, 2014 discussing how “Breastfeeding can benefit mothers”.  In the reading it stated that breastfeeding “lowers the infant’s risk of SIDS”, one doesn’t have to worry about getting up to warm a bottle due to, breast milk is already preserved and warm waiting for him / her to latch onto her breast.

List below are some reason breastfeeding can benefit your baby.

  • Your baby is not prone to ear infections, colds and virus.
  • Mothers can pump their milk and bring it to their childcare provider in order for it to be stored in the refrigerator until babies is ready to drink.

  • It helps the brain to develop and grow and he / she will have less learning and behavior difficulties
  • Prevent diaper rash and skin problems
  • The milk is much easier to digest and the baby would not become constipated
  • Fights type 2 diabetes

Proteins that are found in breast milk and their benefits:

  • Lactoferrin “inhibits the growth of iron-dependent bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.  This inhibits certain organisms, such as coliforms and yeast that require iron”.
  • Secretory IgA “works to protect the infant from viruses and bacteria, specifically those that the baby, mom, and family are exposed to.  It also helps to protect against E. Coli and possibly allergies.  Other immunoglobulins, including IgG and IgM, in breast milk also help protect against bacterial and viral infections”.  Also, eating fish can help increase the amount of these proteins in your breast milk.
  • Lysozyme “an enzyme that protects the infant against E. Coli and Salmonella. It also promotes the growth of healthy intestinal flora and has anti-inflammatory functions”.
  • Bifidus factor “supports the growth of lactobacillus. Lactobacillus is a beneficial bacteria that protects the baby against harmful bacteria by creating an acidic environment where it cannot survive”.

In conclusion, In view of what, I’ve learn about breastfeeding my son would not have been prone to some of his illness such as ear infections.  My mother tried to talk me into breastfeeding but, I was afraid.

Germany (Child’s Birth)

Germany (Child’s Birth)

Birth Customs Around the World By:  Lora Shaken, From American Study

One of my co –workers went to Germany because, her husband was in the Army.  While living in a new environment and learning their culture she had 2 children.  I read an article about “Birth Customs Around the World” I chose the women in Germany.   In Germany the “Midwives make sure the mothers receive prenatal care.  Also, the “midwives must be at all births when mother are expected to deliver but, it’s optional for her doctor to present”.   As of today we do not need midwives to teach us about prenatal care.  We attend prenatal classes once pregnancy has been established with follow up visits, and given meds from our doctor to ensure the growth and development of the child.

EXPERIENCE GIVNG BIRTH TO MY SON AT AGE 19

EXPERIENCE GIVNG BIRTH TO MY SON AT AGE 19

Although, I had one child before marrying my husband and he brought 2 children into the marriage I do not believe in saying step children.  I will give an overview of my pregnancy of my son “Phillip”.   I still had a cycle and was able to fit all of my clothing.  How I found out was talking to a friend on the phone and tell her about a dark line in the middle of stomach area.  Not knowing what’s going on also, my baby sister ease dropping on the phone Sharon says, “LaWana” I think you are going to have a baby.

This noise sister of mine goes to phone our parents, and tells the conversation, I was having with Sharon.  My parents idmitily get off the plane in Los Vegas and come straight back to Chicago.    My parents came home and ask the crazy question which, “You having a cycle”!  I answered truthfully, yes.  While working at the hospital dad played a sick to get me off work and go to the doctor with him.  I was so thirst while waiting for him. I asked his nurse where’s the water fountain.

Never will I forget Nurse Debbie saying drink about glass of water and you feel much better.  Yes, I did drink the 8 glass of water only to tell my dad once he came out of the room with the nurse and doctor my head and stomach was hurting very badly.  I must have regurgitate at least 3 ti 4 times within 3 minutes.  Nurse Debbie asked my dad if, he wanted me to be seen, and with that said my exam begun.  She told me to get all the way undress and took my urine, and blood followed up by an Ultra Sound.

Nurse Debbie shows the ultra sound picture to me, of a child with all body parents and suggest that I need tell my father.  See my parents took us to school and picked each child up and could not believe this happen.    From the Ultra Sound and exam the doctor tells us I’m 7 months with 2 months to go.  October of 1978, I remember it being sunny and very hot outside.  My brother had to carry me out of the house due to our steps were being replaced.  My father was yelling out to my mother and sister to hurry and get me to the hospital.

On this day I was to go get and Ultra Sound and a test to see if, the baby could take labor pains.  This was because, my baby never moved about a stayed in the same position.  On this day he decided to move about and dial was where it needed to be.  As, I was getting quickly prep the nurse drops a big tube of my blood, blood pressure rising, and mom trying to calm me down, and sister holding my hand saying, “ you doing fine”.  Now the doctors tells me to push due to the head is ready to come out.  I push my child’s head out and then pass totally out on the table.

This was due to me being diagnose as having a sleeping disorder at that time it was called “Narcolepsy”.  Narcolepsy is a “Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder that affects the control of sleep and wakefulness, and the person can go to sleep at any given time”, and this is what happen to me.  My mom, brother and sister had to finish my devilry by pushing down very hard on the belly, and the doctor using forceps to pull his arms out.  It’s a wonder no damage came to the baby.  He was a health 6 pounds and 13 Oz’s.  I did not regain conscious until the next day in the afternoon.  The doctors treated me with kindness and make sure I had the proper medication before allowing me to stay alone with my son.  As, I grew older the “Narcolepsy” has now flip over to “Sleep Apnea”.  Still today I’m being treated for “Sleep Apnea” and have to use oxygen due to my levels drop at night and sleep with a mass.   I’m very grateful for having birth a wonderful son and being united with two other children whom, admires my ambition to strive and conquer the goals which, I have set forth for me.
